Ex-Offenders have a chance with Job Search Program

With the proliferation of ex-felons being released back into the community, many of them, as well as many within the community, have found that it is difficult for them to reintegrate into society. While the ex-offenders are being required (as well as having their own desire) to find and keep employment, they are finding it ever increasingly difficult to do just that. However, there is hope.

VITWM and Promise Land Christian Community Church have been doing just that for a few years and with a great level of success. Now, VITWM has partnered with the Indiana Athletic Teen Basketball Association (IATBA) to provide the soft-skill training that many of them need to successfully find and keep a good job.

The first class began May 19, 2009 and is being taught by Rev. Dana D. Jones Sr and Mrs. Kim Bostic, both members of Promise Land Christian Community Church. Rev. Jones' previously worked for America Works of Indianapolis, an employment/training organization tasked with providing soft-skill training to TANF recipients, as well as ex-offenders who volunteered for the program.  Now tasked with training ex-offenders, Mr. Jones and Mrs. Bostic (as they are called by their students) are using their skills and experiences to help this segment of the community develop the confidence and skills necessary to become successful.
